I've been keeping a bit of a secret. I stumbled upon a Paleo diet a few weeks ago and have become slightly obsessed. What is Paleo?, you may ask? You can read more here, but the basics are:
grains, dairy, legumes, processed foods, refined sugar, corn, alcohol, & certain starches.
fruit, poultry, game, seafood, veggies, healthy fats, nuts & seeds

For me it all started with Danielle's post where she mentioned a new client who got her hooked on Crossfit (Cf). Of course I venture over to check out said new client's blog (River North Paleo Girl) and find she's some kind of "Paleo girl". Didn't know what that meant, but I was definitely NOT interested after reading on her site about all the things you couldn't eat. Still, I spent some time perusing her blog and everything she was cooking looked delicious...seriously. Especially this Ginger Lime Grilled Shrimp & Strawberry Cabbage Salad.

I started doing a little more research of my own and found out that this Paleo lifestyle was not a new thing and I was not, in fact, the third person to find out about it.  People have doing it for years and are loving it. And a little more research brought me to Robb Wolf's site which gave me all the 4-1-1 on Paleo. Sure, it sounded a tad difficult for a girl known for never meeting a loaf of sourdough or pint of Haagen Daaz she didn't like, but I was intrigued.  I decided to start with the Whole 30 which, for me, would be a little more difficult than Paleo alone, but I knew it would be great for my bod. Believe it or not, I found that I actually loved it. Part of the reason it was easy to start is that I have Vitiligo, which is an Autoimmune disease, and Paleo is said to ease AI symptoms with specific modifications including no eggs or tomatoes. I was interested in it for general health reasons but knew if it could help my V, it would be an added bonus.

So I started paying a lot of attention to what I was eating, making all (99.999%) of my meals at home, and even looking into Cf (pretty major for the girl who hasn't worked out in...quite awhile and hates to sweat). Started a new Pinterest board for Paleo foods (which gained 700+ followers in 2 days!) and found a ton of new blogs, a few of which I've added to my blogroll.  Fast forward to last week & I was all Paleo'd down, attending CF in my new sports bras when I fell off the wagon Friday night. After a hard workout and being caught at home & unprepared with grub, I did the unthinkable. First I stepped off the wagon, then this weekend I apparently turned around and pushed the wagon over with both hands...so you know what that means.  I've been feeling kind of guilty, knowing that I only had 1 more week to go to make my 30 days(!!!). Still, this week I'm getting back on the wagon & trying again! I'm currently debating between doing Whole 30 again or just Paleo, but I'd love to hear from any of you who may be
Paleo-phytes or Cf freaks. I'll take all the encouragement I can get & would love if you shared any new recipes or fave blogs I may be missing. And if you're interested in learning more about Paleo, let me know & I'll share my experiences. I felt great, BTW, and definitely noticed a difference in body. Had a few headaches weaning myself from the sugar, but was pleasantly surprised to find that I was NEVER hungry...at all. And totally got back into breakfast, which I've been missing out on for years. If you've been thinking about it, I would definitely recommend you give it a try!
